    The transformer shown in Figure \(\PageIndex{1}\) is used to increase or decrease the voltage in an electric circuit. Transformers are rated in volts and amps for specific applications. A typical application is a doorbell circuit or control circuit on AC equipment, transforming 120 volts AC to 24 volts AC.
