While infrared thermography is a non-contact inspection method, inspections are often conducted in hazardous environments, including energized electrical systems, operating machinery, elevated work areas, and outdoor locations.
A Thermography Level I technician must recognize hazards, follow established safety procedures, and never compromise safety to obtain an image. This chapter introduces common safety hazards and safe work practices associated with thermographic inspections, including handheld and drone-based operations.
