    A basic understanding of electrical principles helps explain why heat is generated in electrical systems.

    Current, Voltage, and Resistance

    • Current is the flow of electrical charge.
    • Voltage is the electrical potential that drives current.
    • Resistance opposes current flow.

    Heat in electrical systems is commonly related to resistance. Increased resistance can result in increased heat generation.

    Electrical Load

    Electrical load refers to the amount of current being drawn by a system or component.

    • Higher load generally produces more heat.
    • Low-load conditions may mask thermal anomalies.

    Level I Requirement:
    Verify and document load conditions when required by procedure.
