    11.3 Additional Woodworking Resources

WMT 101 is an introduction. Woodworking includes many additional materials, tools, processes, specialties, and approaches that cannot be covered fully in one course.

The following resources can help you continue learning.

    WMT Wood Lab Safety Manual

The WMT Wood Lab Safety Manual contains the machine-specific safety requirements and operating limits used in the Cerritos College woodworking labs.

The manual, instructor demonstrations, required safety testing, and machine checkouts always take precedence over general information in this resource when you are working in the WMT lab.

    Introduction to Woodworking Machines

Peter Scheidt's Introduction to Woodworking Machines provides additional explanations of common woodworking machines, machine parts, and woodworking operations.

    Additional Reading

The following books provide useful opportunities for deeper study.

Carpenter, Tom, editor. The Complete Book of Woodworking.
A broad introduction to tools, techniques, shop practices, and woodworking projects.

Hoadley, R. Bruce. Understanding Wood: A Craftsman's Guide to Wood Technology.
A detailed reference on wood structure, moisture, movement, and material behavior.

Jackson, Albert, David Day, and Simon Jennings. The Complete Manual of Woodworking.
A highly visual reference covering tools, joinery, materials, and woodworking processes.

Korn, Peter. Woodworking Basics: Mastering the Essentials of Craftsmanship.
A project-based introduction emphasizing fundamental skills, accuracy, and craftsmanship.

Molzahn, Patrick A., William D. Umstattd, and Charles W. Davis. Modern Cabinetmaking.
A comprehensive textbook covering woodworking technology, machinery, cabinetry, construction, and professional practices.

Pekovich, Michael. The Why and How of Woodworking: A Simple Approach to Making Meaningful Work.
A resource connecting design decisions, craftsmanship, workflow, and the experience of making furniture.
