Effective staffing requires more than simply filling positions. Program leaders must determine staffing needs, define roles clearly, ensure that staff have appropriate qualifications, recruit and onboard thoughtfully, and provide ongoing supervision and support. They must also respond to real-world challenges such as turnover, absences, budget limitations, and the need to retain strong staff over time. This chapter examines the many dimensions of staffing the early childhood program, with attention to both administrative systems and the human relationships that shape daily practice.
