    Definition: Term

         Convection is the transfer of heat through the movement of fluids (liquids or gases). In HVAC/R systems, convection is typically seen when air or water is heated and circulates to distribute thermal energy. This movement can occur naturally, as warmer air rises and cooler air falls (natural convection), or it can be forced using fans or pumps (forced convection).

         For instance, in a residential heating system, warm air generated by a furnace is distributed through ducts to different rooms via convection, maintaining a comfortable indoor environment.

    Refrigeration works by moving heat, similar to how a sponge absorbs and squeezes out water:

    1. Evaporator Coil - Absorbs heat from indoor air (like a sponge soaking up water).
    2. Compressor - Increases refrigerant pressure, moving it through the system (like squeezing the sponge).
    3. Condenser Coil - Releases heat outside (like squeezing water out of the sponge).

    Expansion Valve - Reduces pressure and cools refrigerant before it enters the evaporator again (like releasing the sponge to absorb more water).

    Hands-on Troubleshooting

    🔹 Problem 1: AC is running but not cooling.
            ✅ Step 1: Check thermostat settings—is it set to "Cool"?
            ✅ Step 2: Inspect air filter—is it clogged?
            ✅ Step 3: Examine condenser coil—is it covered in dirt?
            ✅ Step 4: Measure refrigerant pressure—is it too low?

     

    🔹 Problem 2: Furnace is blowing cold air.
            ✅ Step 1: Check the thermostat mode—is it set to "Heat"?
            ✅ Step 2: Inspect the pilot light (for gas furnaces).
            ✅ Step 3: Look at the air filter—a dirty filter can restrict airflow.

     

    🔧 Hands-On Exercise:
            ✅ Find your HVAC air filter and check its condition—if it’s dirty, replace it.
            ✅ Adjust the thermostat by 5 degrees and see how long it takes for the system to respond.
