This guide documents what happened when a small rural community college spent a year taking generative AI seriously. It grew out of the recurring question a handful of overcommitted faculty kept asking each other in hallways and over email: what is this thing actually doing to our students, and what, if anything, should we do about it?
AI showed up the way most things show up at a college our size: in screenshots and worried emails, not in a strategic plan. We had no instructional design team to hand it to, no center for teaching excellence, no task force appointed from above. So a cross-disciplinary group of us (faculty from the humanities, STEM, CTE, and the library) started meeting to work it out together. This guide is what we have to show for that year: the good experiments, the failed ones, the policies we landed on, and the tools that helped.
