Overview of Common Algorithms in Predictive Analytics

Modern predictive analytics relies on a toolkit of well-established machine learning algorithms. Each algorithm has its own assumptions, suitable problem types, and strengths. Below we introduce some of the most common algorithms, including both supervised learning algorithms (like regressions and decision trees) and an unsupervised learning technique (clustering). We also provide insight into how they work and basic examples of using them in Python (with scikit-learn) to illustrate practical implementation.
