The intellectual foundation, project-management concepts, instructional approach, scenarios, and overall design of Project Management – A Practicum were developed based on professional project-management experience, teaching practice, original instructional materials, and appropriately licensed Open Educational Resources (OER).
Generative artificial intelligence was used during the development and production of this book. Its use included drafting assistance, editing, instructional-material development, assessment support, organization, formatting, and selected media production. All final instructional and editorial decisions remained under human control.
AI Tools Used
The primary generative AI tool used in developing this book was ChatGPT by OpenAI. AI-assisted image-generation capabilities available through ChatGPT were also used for selected original illustrations and chapter graphics.
Specific model versions are not identified because the book was developed iteratively over time and the models available through the service changed during the development process.
How AI Was Used
Drafting and Instructional Development
The project-management concepts, learning objectives, professional context, project scenarios, instructional requirements, and pedagogical direction were established by the human author.
AI assisted with drafts of selected instructional materials, including:
- Scenario Briefs and project situations
- Plans of Attack and student instructions
- Explanations and examples
- Project-management templates and simulated professional artifacts
- Resource Guides for Student Success
- Reflection and lessons-learned questions
- Submission checklists
- Instructor notes and evaluation criteria
- Glossary and selected front- and back-matter content
AI-assisted drafts were not automatically incorporated into the book. They were reviewed, corrected, reorganized, substantially revised, expanded, shortened, or rejected as appropriate.
Editing and Organization
AI was used to improve clarity, readability, organization, transitions, terminology, consistency across chapters, student accessibility, and formatting of human-created and human-directed material.
Assessments and Learning Activities
AI assisted with drafting and refining selected scenario-based activities, worksheets, reflection questions, rubrics, and evaluation criteria. Learning outcomes, instructional purpose, expected student performance, and final assessment requirements were determined through human instructional judgment.
Project Simulations and Artifacts
AI assisted in developing and refining selected fictional project documents, communications, templates, and other artifacts used in the practicum. These materials were developed under human direction to simulate professional project-management practice and were reviewed for consistency with the instructional objectives and project storyline.
Media and Production
AI-assisted image-generation tools were used for selected original chapter illustrations, covers, and supporting graphics. AI also assisted with selected formatting and production tasks.
Representative Uses
Representative instructions provided to AI included requests to:
- develop a student-facing Plan of Attack from an established project scenario;
- improve an existing explanation while preserving its project-management meaning;
- develop instructional materials using provided project documents;
- refine student instructions for clarity and accessibility;
- create reflection questions aligned with a completed project activity;
- check materials for consistency with earlier chapters; and
- create illustrations representing project-management concepts.
These examples describe the general nature of AI assistance and are not an exhaustive record of individual interactions.
Guardrails and Human Review
The following guardrails were applied throughout development:
- AI was used with author-created materials, materials for which permission was available, and appropriately licensed OER and other permitted resources.
- AI-generated material was treated as draft material or an editorial/production aid, not as an authoritative source.
- AI-assisted instructional content was checked against professional project-management experience, subject-matter knowledge, instructional objectives, and underlying project materials.
- Factual and technical claims requiring verification were checked against appropriate sources before publication.
- AI-assisted material was substantially revised where necessary to correct inaccuracies, resolve inconsistencies, preserve instructional intent, and reflect professional judgment.
- AI was not used to process or disclose private student information in the creation of this book.
- Human review determined what AI-assisted material was accepted, modified, or rejected, and final editorial control remained with the human author.
The human author retains responsibility for the human-authored contributions, instructional design, subject-matter review, editorial decisions, and final published work.
