Briefing
From: Director of IT
Subject: Task 3 – Schedule, Cost Estimation, and Budget Strategy
Team,
We’ve reviewed your project charter and structural plan for C-Bay’s new franchise initiative. Thank you for outlining a compelling delivery strategy and helping us see how the loan services expansion could scale.
Now it’s time to pressure-test the plan.
You are now tasked with moving from strategic structure to operational readiness. In this milestone, we need a fully scoped schedule, a clear cost model, and a defensible budget framework for how C-Bay will launch and support over 1,000 franchise locations.
This isn’t just a math exercise. It’s a leadership challenge.
Your core objectives:
- Create a Project Schedule
- Develop a detailed timeline showing what will be delivered, in what order, by whom, and how long it will take. Think in phases. Show dependencies. Align with your architecture and milestone plan.
- Estimate Costs
- Identify all relevant cost drivers—staffing, tools, vendor services, training, support, systems. Distinguish between one-time setup costs and recurring operating costs.
- Build a Budget Framework
- Propose a scalable budget that C-Bay can use to forecast investment needs. Show how cost per unit, batch rollout, or regional expansion might work. Justify your trade-offs and explain your assumptions.
Deliverables
Your team will submit:
- A structured Project Schedule (visual or tabular)
- A cost estimation model showing key inputs and totals
- A professional Budget Narrative describing how C-Bay can scale responsibly
- Optional: Budget presentation slides, trade-off matrix, stakeholder prep
This milestone is where your plan gets real. The executive team will want to know:
“How long will this take? What will it cost? And can we afford to do this at scale?”
Show them you’ve thought it through.
