Investigator David J. Doglietto, M.S., CSCSA began his career with the State of California in 1985 working for the Department of Consumer Affairs. He transferred to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations in Sacramento in 1988 and was assigned to the Headquarters Unit. In 1993, he transferred to the Correctional Training Facility, Soledad State Prison in Monterey County, as a correctional officer. He spent the first five years working as a tier officer in a housing unit consisting of 312 medium-maximum security level inmates supervised by only two officers. In 1998, he was assigned as an investigative officer with the Investigative Services Unit (ISU) with the primary responsibility of narcotic investigations. His last assignment was as the senior investigative officer with ISU where he occasionally still worked narcotic investigations, but was also a senior crime scene analyst, latent print technician and comparison analyst, bloodstain pattern analyst, crime scene photographer, major crimes and homicide investigator, and he operated the forensic laboratory. He is a life member of the California Narcotic Officers’ Association, a member of the International Association of Identification (IAI), California State Division of the International Association for Identification, and the International Association for Arson Investigators. He is currently a Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst and has over 2000 formal hours of investigative training, with most of the training in the field of forensic sciences. He has presented workshops at the annual International Association for Identification Educational Conferences since 2012. He is the Chair of the IAI Crime Scene Certification Board and is a member of the IAI Forensic Certification Management Board. He has a Master of Science degree in Organizational Leadership and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Management, both degrees from Union Institute & University. He is an adjunct professor at Hartnell Community College, Administration of Justice Department, in Salinas, California and has developed an Introduction to Forensic Science course for the college. Investigator Doglietto retired from the California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation in 2016. He is now an investigator and senior forensic specialist with the Greenfield Police Department in California. He is the author of Crime Scene Processing for Correctional Facilities and Prisons (2024), CRC Press Taylor & Francis Group.
