First, your author shakes his head every time a patrol officer presents him with a photograph of a footwear impression that lacks a scale, and the inevitable question is, “What size shoe is this?” The answer is always, “I have no idea.” Look at the following photograph and tell me what size shoe you think it is.
Would it surprise you to know that it is a boy’s size 6 shoe that left this impression? Remember also that a developed fingerprint must have a scale representing the size of the fingerprint or it cannot be entered into the AFIS database.
