The colonization of flies, beetles, and other insects and arthropods, and their life cycles, provide useful information to the forensic entomologists in determining; the estimation of the time of death; if the body was moved after death; if the victim ingested any toxins or drugs; and may help to establish the identity of the victim. Crime scenes involving bodies in states of decomposition, mummification, or skeletonization require technicians who are specially trained, meticulous in their documentation, and who will process the scene with considerations towards forensic entomology, taphonomy, and anthropology.
