Entry Points
Each of the units we have worked with have unique cultures and history with how teaching has been evaluated. Yet for all the differences, we have been surprised by the consistency of dissatisfaction with faculty input into the process and lack of transparency regarding official procedures and expectations. In order to successfully facilitate this process, we devote the first three meetings to examining existing policies, perceptions, and common flaws inherent to how teaching is commonly evaluated. However, your campus might have already begun this process. If you have departments who have already begun this process and have been working together extensively, you may wish to shorten the amount of time devoted to the first three meetings which are largely designed to foster comfort and trust and uncover issues with the current processes.
