- Critically consider the new teaching evaluation practices you and your CAT members will lead your department to pilot.
- Anticipate the problems these new practices will solve.
- Anticipate the challenges you may run into and the evidence that these will be the challenges.
- Strategize about leveraging the problem solving and navigating around the challenges.
Having self-assessed departmental teaching evaluation practices and met with the CAT members from the unit, LAT/CAT members have likely decided what new teaching evaluation practices they want to pilot in the coming year. Each LAT member in this meeting will be asked to think critically about the problems these new practices will solve and for whom (i.e., different faculty are interested in different problems that the new practice may address) as well as the issues they expect to run into when implementing the pilot. Then they will be encouraged to strategize how to leverage the opportunities for problem solving and work around the challenges. LAT members should leave with ideas of how to turn the pilot into some wins - even if small ones.
