Now that we have discussed incarceration options, it is time to examine some of the alternatives to incarceration. When community corrections are combined with incarceration options as well as other forms of punishment we start to see if there is a vast array of punishment and treatment options. There are a number of different types of punishments available in the American correctional system and if these punishments were to be rank ordered in severity, they might be thought of as steps on a punishment ladder.
