You are not a passive observer in this course. You are not waiting for instructions. You are a professional stepping into a high-stakes environment—and your choices matter.
In this book, you are cast not as a student, but as a project team member. Sometimes you’ll lead. Sometimes you’ll support. But always, you will be expected to think, communicate, and act like someone accountable for outcomes—not just assignments.
Think Like a Consultant
From the very first milestone, you are embedded in a simulated business challenge. You’ll receive a request from C-Bay’s leadership—often vague, urgent, and lacking complete information. Your job isn’t to complain about ambiguity. Your job is to create clarity.
That means:
- Framing the problem using professional judgment
- Gathering and interpreting data
- Making recommendations—even when the data isn’t perfect
- Communicating confidently to leadership
- Owning the result, good or bad
This is what consultants, project managers, analysts, and team leads do every day.
Work as a Team Member
You will be working in a team across all milestones. Collaboration isn’t optional—it’s the core of how work gets done in this practicum.
You are expected to:
- Contribute ideas and artifacts consistently
- Divide work early and revise it together
- Support your teammates, especially when timelines are tight
- Be honest about availability and challenges
- Rotate or specialize in roles based on the milestone needs
The quality of your experience will depend on how well you engage—not just with the content, but with each other.
Rotate Roles or Specialize
Each milestone invites you to take on a functional leadership role, such as:
- Project Manager – organizes the work, holds the big picture
- Facilities Lead – focuses on research and physical needs
- IT Lead – ensures technology and systems are addressed
- Finance Lead – manages cost estimates and modeling
- Presenter – translates analysis into clear recommendations
You may rotate roles by milestone, or assign permanent leads. Either approach is valid—as long as everyone is engaged and accountable.
Use the tools provided (such as the Project Process Planning Sheet and Team Role Assignment Sheet) to clarify responsibilities.
Be Professionally Accountable
You will not be micromanaged. You are expected to:
- Own your deadlines
- Document your decisions
- Communicate progress or roadblocks
- Ask for help when needed
- Deliver work that reflects care, clarity, and critical thinking
This experience is designed to prepare you for real-world professional environments. The more you treat it that way, the more you will grow—not just as a learner, but as a leader.
