Before you initiate any real project work, it's important to ground yourself in the mindset, structure, and tools of project leadership. You don’t need to read a textbook cover to cover. You just need the right starter tools, delivered just in time—the same way a real PM learns on the job.
This section outlines curated, high-impact resources to help you step into your role as a project manager before Milestone 1 begins.
1. Project Management Quick Start Reading
If you're brand new to project management or need a refresher, start here:

- Learn about the core responsibilities of a PM: organizing chaos, aligning teams, making decisions under uncertainty, and tracking progress.
- Recommended Reading (Optional but Helpful):

Goal: Understand what PMs do, why they're needed, and how they guide projects—not just manage tasks.
2. Templates and Documents You’ll Use Immediately
These are the tools you will actually use in the next 1–2 weeks. Open them. Discuss them. Customize them.

3. Instructor and Peer Coaching
Your instructor is not here to micromanage your process—but they are here to coach. Don’t wait for them to intervene. Reach out when:
- You feel stuck about how to lead
- Your team is misaligned
- You’re unsure how to start a deliverable
- Conflict is emerging in your team dynamic
You may also be paired with a peer team for co-review and feedback. These experiences are not “extra.” They are how real PMs get better—by learning from and with others.
