      Transition to Project Closing

    From Execution to Completion: Preparing for the Final Phase

    You have now completed the most demanding part of the NovaMed simulation: executing and monitoring the work while it is in progress. You have responded to real-time issues, analyzed Earned Value performance, enforced the SOW and Contract, escalated critical risks, interpreted design and requirement misalignments, and made decisions under uncertainty.

    This is what real project execution feels like.
    But execution is not the end of the story.

    Now you must transition from leading the work to capturing what the work produced—and ensuring the project is ready for final delivery, evaluation, and closure.

    Project closing is more than simply “stopping work.”
    It includes:

    • Verifying that all contracted deliverables are complete
    • Ensuring acceptance criteria have been met
    • Closing out documentation, test results, and user materials
    • Confirming that defects have been resolved or formally deferred
    • Conducting final evaluations (technical, financial, contractual)
    • Performing handover to operations or client teams
    • Releasing resources and finalizing vendor obligations
    • Collecting lessons learned and archival materials
    • Closing the contract formally and professionally

    Where execution is about momentum,
    closing is about precision and completeness.

    In the next chapter, you will:

    • Conduct a structured final review of NovaMed
    • Validate work against the SOW, Contract, SRS, and HLDD
    • Prepare a Final Acceptance Summary
    • Build a Closeout Package
    • Complete a vendor performance evaluation
    • Document lessons learned from the entire experience
    • Reflect on how well the team managed quality, communication, schedule, cost, and collaboration
    • Learn how successful organizations “finish well”

    Project closing is the capstone of project management.
    It is where leadership, documentation discipline, and customer confidence come together.

    You’ve navigated the complexity of execution.
    Now it’s time to learn how to close a project with clarity, professionalism, and confidence.
