    Reflection and Debrief Questions

    This is not just a “how did you feel” reflection—it’s built to develop executive-level thinking, pattern recognition, and professional self-awareness. It teaches students to pause, assess their reasoning, and consider how they’d behave in real-world stakeholder scenarios.

    You can include this in the milestone or at the end of the submission template, as a required or optional reflection.

    Reflection and Debrief – Milestone 1

    Title: Thinking Like a Planner: Lessons from Your First Strategic Document

    Your Project Charter is more than a submission—it’s the first opportunity you’ve had to speak on behalf of a team, to a client, about a shared future. This is where leadership begins.

    Use these reflection prompts to capture what you’ve learned, what you struggled with, and what you’ll do differently as you continue in the practicum. You are encouraged to write your responses in full paragraphs (200–300 words each) where applicable.

    1. Strategic Thinking
      What was the most challenging part of writing the charter from a strategic point of view—not just completing sections, but thinking like a project lead?
      What mental shifts did you have to make to write like a consultant instead of a student?

    2. Constraints and Tradeoffs
      When defining constraints (schedule, scope, cost, quality), how did you decide which was most important to UCMS?
      Did this decision influence how you thought about the rest of the project?

    3. Success Criteria
      When writing success criteria, did you find it easy or difficult to define what success looks like from the client’s perspective?
      How would you validate success mid-project using your own criteria?

    4. Stakeholder Insight
      What did you learn by researching or thinking through the roles of actual stakeholders (e.g., Dean of Admissions, CIO, Director of PMO)?
      How do you think stakeholder alignment will impact future phases of this project?

    5. Risks and Assumptions
      What’s one assumption you made that you feel confident about—and one you still feel uncertain about?
      If you were leading the kickoff meeting next week, what would you want to confirm first?

    6. Process Reflection
      If you had one more day to revise your charter, what’s the one section you would rework—and why?
      How will you approach the next planning document differently?

    7. Real-World Application
      Imagine you were handing your charter to a real C-Bay implementation team. What one piece of advice would you give them before they begin?
      How does this document help set the tone for the culture of the project?

    Optional Group Debrief Prompts (for peer sessions or class wrap-ups)

    • What did you notice about how different teams interpreted the same scenario?
    • What would you borrow from someone else’s approach if you could?
    • What part of this process felt most like something you might do in your future role?

    How to Submit

    You may:

    • Include this reflection as the final section of your charter
    • Submit it as a separate document titled UCMS_Reflection_YourLastName.docx
    • Respond to these questions in a class-based peer debrief session, if assigned by your instructor
