    Tools for Student Submission, Peer Feedback, and Faculty Facilitation

    Milestone 1—Structuring Scope: The Project Charter for UCMS—marks a foundational moment in the practicum. By completing this milestone, students have not only learned how to define and frame the start of a project—they’ve also rehearsed what it means to take ownership of ambiguity, stakeholder alignment, and early decision-making in a real-world planning scenario.

    To support deep learning and consistent quality across teams and classrooms, Milestone 1 is wrapped with three core instructional tools:

    1. Final Compilation: The Master Milestone Document

    All instructional and student-facing components of Milestone 1 are consolidated into a clean, typeset Word document for easy distribution and implementation. This compilation includes:

    • A professionally written introduction explaining the milestone’s purpose and required mindset shift
    • A scenario briefing immersing students in the UCMS planning environment
    • A detailed plan of attack with step-by-step thinking guidance
    • The C-Bay Best Practices Reference for structuring scope and aligning stakeholders
    • Clear submission guidelines with formatting and content expectations
    • A detailed checklist for verifying completeness before submission
    • Structured reflection and debrief questions
    • An instructor-friendly grading rubric with coaching language and scoring criteria

    This file serves as the single source of truth for the milestone, streamlining delivery and helping students maintain focus by keeping all milestone components in one place.

    2. Peer Review Activity: Structured Charter Evaluation

    An optional peer review guide enables students to evaluate another team’s Project Charter using C-Bay’s rubric and best practices. Students are prompted to:

    • Assess strategic clarity, not just formatting
    • Look for clear prioritization of constraints
    • Offer feedback on handling risks, assumptions, and stakeholder dynamics
    • Reflect on how another team’s framing could influence their own

    This activity builds evaluative skill, reinforces planning standards, and can be done in written form, live sessions, or as peer grading. It works best before final submission.

    3. Faculty Facilitation Notes: Supporting Discussion and Coaching

    A one-page guide for instructors provides:

    • Prompts for discussion (“What constraint would you protect at all costs?”)
    • Notes on common issues in student work
    • Guidance for treating the milestone as a leadership exercise
    • Strategies for helping students shift from “template fillers” to “trusted advisors”

    These notes work well for session pre-briefing, peer workshops, or post-submission coaching, and create continuity across sections or instructors.
