Milestone 3 asked you to take ownership of execution design. You weren’t just organizing tasks—you were building a system of flow, effort, coordination, and commitment.
These reflection prompts are designed to help you:
- Step back from the technical work
- Explore the thinking behind your planning choices
- Identify what you learned about decision-making under ambiguity
- Recognize how planning structure enables action
Use these prompts for solo reflection, team debriefs, or instructor-led discussion.
Section 1 – Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
- What strategy did you use to determine how deeply to break the work down?
- Did you start from deliverables, phases, or tasks? Why?
- Where did you feel uncertain about how granular to be?
- What did you learn about scope management through the process of building your WBS?
Section 2 – Task Dependencies and Sequencing
- How did your initial understanding of the work evolve once you started mapping dependencies?
- Were there any points in your task flow that surprised you—like hidden bottlenecks or feedback loops?
- How did the exercise of identifying external dependencies change your project risk awareness?
- What tradeoffs did you make between strict sequencing and flexibility?
Section 3 – Effort and Duration Estimation
- Which tasks were easiest to estimate? Which were hardest—and why?
- How did you balance optimism and realism in your estimates?
- What did you assume about team availability—and how confident are you in that assumption?
- If your sponsor asked, “How did you get these numbers?”—how would you respond?
Section 4 – Milestone Schedule
- What was your rationale for choosing each milestone?
- How did you decide what makes a checkpoint “milestone-worthy”?
- Were any milestones added, removed, or renamed as you worked through sequencing?
- How does your milestone schedule shape stakeholder expectations or team morale?
Section 5 – Planning Readiness Review
- When you reviewed your own plan, what areas felt strong—and what needed revision?
- Did this review surface any risks or disconnects you hadn’t previously noticed?
- How did it feel to be the one declaring “this is ready”? What responsibility came with that?
- If this plan went live next week, what conversations would you want to have with your sponsor first?
Cross-Cutting Reflections
- Which planning section forced the biggest revision in your overall approach?
- How did your thinking evolve from “doing work” to “designing flow”?
- Did your decisions ever conflict with each other (e.g., effort vs. sequencing)? How did you resolve that?
- What changed about your understanding of “project planning” by the end of this milestone?

- What habits or tools from this milestone will you bring into your next project?
- What was the most professional part of your submission? What made it feel that way?
