    Nathan Martin

    Nathan T. Martin is an associate professor of the Recreation and Tourism Management at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) in Los Angeles. He also serves as the Executive Director of the CSUN Aquatic Center at Castaic Lake. Prior to arriving at CSUN in 2012, he spent four years at the University of Memphis (TN) as an assistant professor in its graduate Sport Commerce and undergraduate Sport and Leisure Studies programs. While his interests are broad, he currently teaches and researches in the areas of recreation and sport management, risk management, safety, and organizational culture. While working in city/county recreation and collegiate recreational sports he earned his bachelor’s in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. His master’s in Sport Administration is from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), where he worked for its division of Recreational Sports. He worked at Southwestern University near Austin, TX as an outdoor recreation specialist and sport club coordinator before pursuing a doctorate at the University of New Mexico (UNM). His Ph.D. is in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation and taught in UNM’s physical activity program and as a visiting assistant professor in its master’s and doctorate programs. He served on the board of directors for both the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association and the Sport and Recreation Law Association and enjoys volunteering for youth sport organizations. He lives in Glendale, CA with his amazing and beautiful family, spending time with youth sport activities and on outdoor family excursions.
