    The objectives below are drawn from the MBU AI Fundamentals course plan's Weekly Learning Objectives for the corresponding week, and are reproduced here (adapted from CompTIA AI Fundamentals V1) as a study guide for each chapter.

    Chapter 1: What is Artificial Intelligence?

    • Identify how AI is used in everyday tools and workplaces.
    • Define artificial intelligence, machine learning, and generative AI, and explain how the three relate.
    • Distinguish generative AI from traditional software and web search.
    • Identify major AI tools and models and match them to appropriate academic, personal, and workplace tasks.
    • Classify common tasks as good or poor candidates for AI support.
    • Distinguish lower-risk from higher-risk ways of using AI.
    • Recognize how AI is changing work across industries and how roles, skills, and tasks are shifting.

    Chapter 2: The Art of the Prompt

    • Identify the components of an effective prompt.
    • Construct role–task–context–format (RTCF) prompts for a range of tasks.
    • Compare weak and strong prompts by the quality of the output each produces.
    • Distinguish zero-shot, one-shot, and few-shot prompting, and select the appropriate approach for a given task.
    • Describe how temperature, top-k, and top-p settings shape the variability of AI output.
    • Define context files and explain how supplied context changes AI output.
    • Select safe, relevant context sources and avoid oversharing sensitive information.
    • Configure simple context-aware AI interactions in common tools.

    Chapter 3: AI Reasoning

    • Treat AI interactions as multi-turn conversations rather than single requests.
    • Use follow-up prompts to refine, correct, and deepen an initial output.
    • Maintain focus and coherence across an extended AI session.
    • Explain how step-by-step (chain-of-reasoning) prompting improves performance on multi-step problems.
    • Select among direct-answer, step-by-step, and self-critique approaches based on task complexity and cost of error.
    • Recognize the limits of step-by-step prompting, including that it cannot repair missing or incorrect information.

    Chapter 4: Responsible AI Use

    • Identify key AI risks, including bias, hallucination, privacy exposure, and intellectual property concerns.
    • Analyze the potential impact of ethical concerns in AI use on individuals, communities, and the broader world.
    • Apply basic privacy and security practices when working with AI tools.
    • Recognize situations that require disclosure of AI use or additional caution.
    • Identify common AI errors and hallucinations in generated content.
    • Detect bias and low-quality or shallow output.
    • Select and apply appropriate verification methods for a given level of task risk.
    • Execute a repeatable verification workflow from claim identification through documented confirmation.

    Chapter 5: Creating and Learning with AI

    • Use AI to overcome creative blocks, generate initial ideas, and draft and revise communications.
    • Select prompts appropriate to different audiences, tones, and formats.
    • Identify safe and ethical uses of AI-generated media.
    • Use AI to critique and improve their own work.
    • Use AI to explain concepts at an appropriate level of difficulty.
    • Generate practice materials and study aids using AI templates.
    • Distinguish acceptable AI-supported studying from academic misconduct.

    Chapter 6: Analysis, Automation, and Agents

    • Use AI as a thought partner in simple decision scenarios.
    • Evaluate AI-suggested options for plausibility and risk.
    • Explain decisions that combine AI output with human judgment.
    • Identify everyday tasks suitable for basic AI-enabled automation.
    • Describe common AI-supported workflow patterns.
    • Identify the core components of an AI agent.
    • Explain human-in-the-loop oversight for AI agents and automation, and place approval checkpoints appropriately.

    Chapter 7: AI and Your Career

    • Identify when and how to disclose AI use in academic and professional work.
    • Recognize roles in AI-augmented team workflows, including prompter, verifier, and editor.
    • Select clear, nontechnical explanations of AI use and its limitations for a non-expert audience.
    • Describe how AI and related technologies are reshaping work across industries.
    • Identify AI-related skills, both explicit and implicit, in job descriptions.
    • Apply AI ethically to career preparation, including resumes, cover letters, and interview practice.
