The toolkit extends the research findings 5 by translating the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Socially Just Disability Resources (SJDR) into practical, replicable lesson templates for use in inclusive adult and workforce-preparation settings.
- Toolkit Overview
- This page presents a toolkit for inclusive workforce education, derived from Universal Design for Learning and Socially Just Disability Resources. It contains five instructional modules on key employability skills, featuring scenario activities, scaffolded instruction, and assessment tools.
- Appendix A - Faculty Implementation Guide
- This page serves as a resource for instructors on implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Socially Just Disability Resources (SJDR) to improve workforce readiness and equity in Career Development courses. It emphasizes strategies for engagement, representation, and expression, while promoting inclusive and culturally responsive environments.
- Appendix A-1 - Self-Assessment for Universal Design for Learning and Inclusive Instruction
- This page outlines a checklist for instructors to assess their lesson plans based on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices. It covers planning for accessibility, scaffolding support, and self-reflection for improvement.
- Appendix B-1 - UDL Aligned Introduction to the Module
- This page outlines a Professional Communication module aimed at adult learners with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). It focuses on enhancing workplace communication skills through Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and trauma-informed strategies. The curriculum includes in-person and online activities, role-play practice, and personal goal setting.
- Appendix B-2 - UDL + SJDR Aligned
- This page covers a Time Management and Task Completion module designed for adult learners with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). It enhances executive-functioning skills crucial for employment through strategies for organization and punctuality, utilizing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Socially Just Disability Resources (SJDR).
- Appendix B-3 - UDL Aligned Introduction to the Module
- This page covers a Teamwork and Conflict Resolution module tailored for adult learners with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It focuses on improving collaboration, empathy, and communication skills essential for employment, utilizing Universal Design for Learning principles.
- Appendix B-4 - UDL Aligned Introduction to the Module
- This page provides insights on two educational modules aimed at empowering adult learners with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The Self-Advocacy and Goal Setting module focuses on helping learners articulate needs, set goals, and foster independence using UDL and trauma-informed practices.
- Appendix B-5 - Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Aligned
- This page discusses a module designed to help adult learners with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) develop adaptability and problem-solving skills for the workplace. It emphasizes the importance of resilience and critical thinking, utilizing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and trauma-informed practices.
- Appendix B-6 - “What Does Feeling Safe Mean?”
- This page discusses the "What Does Feeling Safe Mean?" check-in activity aimed at fostering emotional safety and trust in inclusive classrooms. It encourages learners to express their feelings and set boundaries, can be implemented during various educational moments, and lasts 10-20 minutes. Key learning outcomes include understanding safety, respect for boundaries, and effective communication.
- Appendix C - Ongoing Reflection for Inclusive and UDL-Aligned Instruction
- This page discusses the Faculty Reflection Log, a structured tool for educators to enhance teaching practices according to Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and equity-focused instruction. It encourages mindful reflections on learner engagement, accessibility, agency, cultural responsiveness, and trauma-informed practices.
- Appendix C-1 - Tracking Use of Toolkit Modules and UDL-Aligned Practices
- This page discusses the Program Fidelity Tracker, a tool for faculty to document the implementation of inclusive teaching strategies from the Toolkit for Inclusive Workforce Education. It aids in program review, professional development, and reporting, helping identify effective strategies. Faculty can customize the tracker for local needs and regularly document instructional practices to align with equity goals and improve teaching methods.
- Appendix D - Templates for Goal Setting, Reflection, and Self- Assessment
- This page presents student-centered tools aimed at boosting self-awareness, goal-setting, and reflection for academic and workplace readiness. Key resources include a Goal-Setting Worksheet, Weekly Reflection Sheet, Soft-Skills Self-Assessment, and Visual Decision Organizer, promoting learner agency and self-regulation. These tools align with the Toolkit for Inclusive Workforce Education and can be used individually or collaboratively.
- Appendix E - Lesson Template and Licensing Information
- This page provides an editable lesson template for instructors using the Toolkit for Inclusive Workforce Education, focusing on UDL and SJDR. It promotes program consistency, reduces preparation time, and includes essential sections for learning outcomes, instructional methods, and assessment criteria. The template encourages adaptation and sharing among faculty to improve inclusive education practices, and all materials are available under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.
