OVERVIEW
The goal of this chapter is to gain a safe, entry level working knowledge of manual milling machines. It is important for students to have the knowledge of this chapter because it gives them a foundation for the upper level machining skills that revolve around CNC milling and programming. Students will be applying the contents of this chapter to their hands-on lab work that will accompany the units. They will also apply the information once employed at machine shops.
Objectives
- Identify and address the safety concerns of operating a milling machine.
- Identify milling machine components and define their function.
- Identify and select tooling for milling.
- Calculate speeds and feeds for milling operations.
- Identify and select tool holding and work holding options.
- Describe and perform proper setup solutions.
- List and describe various operations performed on a milling machine.
