    Definition

    Active Listening

    Behavior that indicates to the person speaking that the listener is understanding all verbal and non-verbal information is heard and understood.

    Adaptability

    The competency attributed to the ability to change as required for a particular situation or workplace.

    Aggressive

    Communication style that forcefully tries to demand others to accept your point of view.

    Assertive

    Communication style that tactfully and respectfully takes action to accomplish the right goals for everyone.

    Attrition Rates

    Metric used to identify the number of employees who leave an organization.

    Collaboration

    The art of a group of people sharing ideas and working together to reach a common goal or outcome.

    Competency

    The attainment of top skills necessary for career success.

    Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

    Principles and best practices that promote fair treatment and opportunity to all people.

    Emotional Quotient

    The ability to understand and manage one’s emotions to communicate effectively with teammates and co-workers.

    Empathy

    Demonstrating authentic care and concern for others and being able to appreciate their situation or viewpoint in a non-judgmental way.

    Employability

    Skills that make a candidate useful to an organization.

    Etiquette

    An expected form of behavior in a situation or circumstance.

    Innovative

    Using new ideas and methods to create solutions to problems.

    Marginalized Group

    Populations or groups of people that experience discrimination and exclusion because of unequal power relationships across economic, political, social and cultural dimensions.

    Microaggressions

    Indirect, subtle, or unintentional discrimination against team members who belong to marginalized group.

    Motivation

    The Internal (intrinsic) drive that encourages one to move forward diligently and persistently.

    Passive

    Communication style that fails to verbalize their wants and needs, perhaps getting taken advantage of.

    Passive-Aggressive

    Communication style that does not communicate clearly and leads to getting upset when others didn’t know what you wanted. Person appears to be nice but is unhappy inside and will sabotage others’ success.

    Rapport

    A productive relationship between two individuals that has a mutual understanding and agreement.

    Reflective Listening

    Responding to a listener by confirming the message was understood prior to moving on to the next idea or topic.

    Self-Awareness

    The ability to recognize one’s patterns of behaviors and habits, especially as perceived by others.

    Self-Regulation

    The ability to monitor and manage one’s emotional reactions appropriately to the current situation.

    Social Skills

    Reaching out, connecting with others, and proficiently building rapport in a team environment.

    Storming

    The second stage of team development where the newness of forming a team has worn off and members may experience a heightened amount of conflict or friction.

    Synergy

    The amount of excess production from combining two or more persons than what everyone would have accomplished individually.

    Transparency

    The open sharing of information and honesty from management regarding situations that affect staff or team members.
