In your own words, explain the term “redlining” and show where you found research articles about the topic. Is this something that still happens today, and if so, which companies may be involved? What steps can you take to educate your real estate clients about the history of redlining in the United States?
3. How many federal-protected classes are recognized in the United States? In our state, how many additional state-protected classes are recognized? Name three protected classes and explain why it is important to ensure they are not discriminated against. 4. What does the term “steering” mean in the context of fair housing laws? As a real estate agent showing homes to prospective buyers, why should you not direct buyers to specific neighborhoods based on their protected class? Explain what happened in the documentary, “Long Island Divided”. Why is steering a discriminatory practice that is illegal?
5. Are discrimination lawsuits related to housing limited to minorities? Besides protecting individuals from diverse racial backgrounds, what other groups of people are protected by fair housing laws?
