Writing mechanics are crucial for college success, and students need to pay close attention to areas such as spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization. Business writing must also meet professional standards. For example, when real estate agents complete a contract, their clients expect words to be spelled correctly and sentences to make sense.
When writing assignments, use spell check and grammar check in your word processing program to proofread your work. See information in the next section on word processing. Tip: always read your written work aloud to check for missing words, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization. Reading one’s work aloud is the best way to find and fix mistakes.
In addition to the functions in your word processing program, other apps are available to check your grammar. Grammarly is one of these.
