Application can be by surface drip, subsurface drip, microspray, or bubbler. Each type is illustrated and described. The components of a typical microirrigation system includes a control station, a mainline, manifolds, and the lateral lines that supply water to the water applicators. The necessity and selection of equipment at the control station are presented along with the procedures to select the appropriate diameter of the various sections of the pipeline. A major concern with microirrigation is the potential for clogging the emitters. The types of filters normally recommended are described and the types of materials that lead to clogging are discussed. The chapter concludes with procedures to determine the proper number of water applications required for various crop conditions.
