Welcome to the OER for Western Washington University's "Open Educational Resources for Teaching and Learning."

The goal of this OER is to help participants get started creating OERs using the LibreTexts ebook platform. This OER will also act as a resource, and a primer, to the teaching and learning attributes behind OERs and Creative Commons content.

Before continuing, be sure you have signed into LibreTexts using your WWU login. To access Instructor Mode, you will have to follow the link to a form (see te video in our course about this).

Getting Started with LibreText

Don't worry, we are not letting you jump into the deep end of the OER creations process! Your Instructor Mode account gains you access to your own Sandbox, a non-public place where you can save an OER in LibreTexts. Think of your Sandbox as you own OER hard drive space at LibreTexts. The interface to design your OER is called the Remixer. It will be a key tool in helping you organize your sourced or created content for your OER. A Remix is the use of other OER materials on LibreTexts that you have recombined into your own OER.

Creative Commons

The key to what make any of this possible, is the notion of Creative Commons. In the first section of this OER, we will have a bit more on the background of Creative Commons.

When diving into LibreTexts, the Remixer is the best place to start! It isn't solely meant for remixing an OER, but also to layout an OER. The Remixer enables you to bring in content that already exists in LibreTexts, as well as to help outline your OER. By using it first, it can help you frame the blank pages that will later become your content. This will all get saved to your Sandbox, where it can be re-edited and updated through your creative process with the Remix tool.
